Yet Another Rebrand

I’ve said before that you can choose to change at any given moment, and you can even shift into different versions of yourself as you please. Today was one of those mornings. I woke up not feeling particularly thrilled with myself and the habits/choices I’ve been in lately. So I decided today would be a fresh start. Again.

When we fall back into unhealthy or destructive patterns, no matter how many times we’ve tried to shake them, it’s easy to give up and submit. To tell ourselves “I just can’t do it” or “I’m not good enough.”

I challenge you to first make a list of all the things you don’t like about yourself- and I’m talking about behaviors and choices, not picking apart your physical insecurities. It can be hard to face yourself or to own up to mistakes or things we deem “bad,” but it is important to first take accountability and acknowledge the discomfort. You don’t have to ridicule yourself or even do a deep dive into WHY you have made those choices (although sometimes that is necessary), but just jot them down to bring them out of your regret and into the light. I also encourage you to write how you feel when you slip up.

Next, say to yourself “I forgive you.” That’s it. You don’t even have to fully forgive yourself yet, but self-soothing is critical to shedding regret and making change.

Then, brainstorm things you can do to in order to rectify the specific items on your list, or to counteract them, or to stop yourself from indulging in them. For example, one thing I struggle with is drinking a lot. So, things on my list include not keeping White Claws in my fridge, having options to do instead such as taking a walk or reading a book, and reminders such as “self-discipline builds confidence.”

Finally, as mentioned above, practice self-discipline. Keep your list of vices close so when you are tempted, you can refer to healthier options and reminders. And you’ll probably slip up again, because you are human. That’s okay. Start over again. The healthiest, most wholesome and confident I ever feel is when I am acting from a place of my higher self, not indulging in quick dopamine hits.

So, today I start anew. For the 100th time :)

I am not my mistakes, I am what I choose to do with them.

xo, BG
